At 17:25 UTC, Israel ordered the flotilla to halt, and by 17:45 interception had begun. Despite this, some ships continued toward Gaza. Around 18:45, Israeli forces reportedly used water cannons on the Yulara, later also on the Meteque. By late evening, multiple ships were intercepted, with reports of attempts to sink the Maria Cristina around 23:00. By 00:40 on October 2, thirteen vessels had been stopped. At 01:00, the flotilla claimed 30 ships were still en route, but by morning the number rapidly declined. The Mikeno reportedly reached within 7 nautical miles of Gaza before losing contact, though Israel denied this. By midday, all but one vessel, the Marinette, had been intercepted.

The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) is the largest civilian maritime mission organized to break Israel's illegal siege on Gaza. Coordinated by grassroots organizers, seafarers, doctors, artists, and solidarity activists from over 40 countries, the flotilla is a nonviolent humanitarian mission responding to the ongoing genocide and siege against the Palestinian people. In August and September 2025, boats of all sizes will set sail from ports around the world, converging toward Gaza to open a humanitarian corridor by sea.The flotilla brings together participants and organizers from the Global March to Gaza, Sumud Convoy, Sumud Nusantara, and the Freedom Flotilla Coalition*, building on decades of Palestinian resistance and international solidarity to shift the global narrative and confront international complicity. Independent of any government or political party, GSF is guided by a commitment to justice, dignity, and the sanctity of human life.
We are a coalition of everyday people—organizers, humanitarians, doctors, artists, clergy, lawyers, and seafarers—who believe in human dignity and the power of nonviolent action.
In June, we launched a globally coordinated mobilization by land, sea, and air. In Summer, we return with a unified strategy: one goal and global coordination like never before.
Our efforts build on decades of Palestinian resistance and international solidarity. Though we belong to/hold different nations, faiths, and political beliefs, we are united by a single truth: the siege and genocide must end.
We are independent, international, and unaffiliated with any government or political party. Our allegiance is to justice, freedom, and the sanctity of human life.
Coordinators, organizers, and participants from the Maghreb Sumud Flotilla, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition*, Global Movement to Gaza, and the Sumud Nusantara have united under a common goal: to break the illegal siege on Gaza by sea, open a humanitarian corridor, and end the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people. This Summer, dozens of boats will set sail from ports around the world, large and small, converging toward Gaza in the largest coordinated civilian flotilla in history.
